EEMBC Publishes Benchmark Scores for Imsys'
Reconfigurable J2ME Java-Enabled Microcontroller:
Office Automation Scores for Cjip Now Available at EEMBC Web Site
EL DORADO HILLS, Calif.May 13, 2002EEMBC, the Embedded Microprocessor Benchmark Consortium, today announced that office automation benchmark scores for the Cjip, a reconfigurable J2ME Java-enabled 8-bit microcontroller from Imsys AB, are available now for free download from the consortium's web site at www.eembc.org.
Tested against EEMBC's Office Automation benchmark suite, the Cjip received a consolidated OAmark out-of-the-box score of 1.2 and a "full-fury" optimized score of 16.9. The EEMBC Office Automation benchmark suite evaluates microprocessor performance in text handling, bitmap rotation, and dithering.
"Imsys AB's microcoded 8-bit processor shows that an affordable solution exists that can do a job that might have required a more expensive, larger processor in the past," said Alan R. Weiss, chairman and CTO of the EEMBC Certification Laboratories (ECL), which certified the Cjip scores. "The little Cjip showed a lot of performance for its size, and should give customers considering a Java or C-programmable 8- or 16-bit device cause to seriously consider Imsys."
Imsys' Cjip is designed for Java, communications and graphics applications, and targets Internet, mobile devices, M2M communication, display and keyboard subsystems, embedded web servers and automotive electronics. The Cjip supports Sun Microsystems Java 2 Micro Edition using CLDC/MIDP, thus providing a standard platform for embedded Java products. The Cjip executes Java bytecodes directly and can also execute programs written in assembler and C/C++ alongside Java.
"This kind of real world testing clearly demonstrates the value of the EEMBC initiative for our customers. From these objective tests, they can now select the microcontroller that fits their specific application and performance needs. The tests show that Imsys can compete with popular RISC-architectures and X86 type of processors" said Paul Karlsson, Imsys president. "Furthermore, the small code size highlighted by the benchmarks, indicates a potential reduction of system cost and power consumption, which are important criteria in some typical applications for the Cjip processor."
