EEMBC Names a New President and CTO
After serving as EEMBC’s Director of Software Engineering for two years, Peter Torelli was named President and CTO in November 2017. In this role, he has focused on maintaining the alliance’s position as the industry’s authority in performance benchmarking. Under his leadership, EEMBC has launched working groups to bolster the capabilities of existing benchmarks, while researching and developing new performance standards for today’s disruptive technologies, including security, IoT, ADAS, machine learning, and more. Call for Machine Learning Working Group Participants
EEMBC is currently seeking participants for its new Machine Learning working group. Group members will collaborate to develop EEMBC’s Machine Learning Benchmark Suite, which will identify the performance potential and power efficiency of processor cores used for accelerating machine-learning jobs on clients such as virtual assistants, smartphones, and IoT devices. New Subcommittee Members
MIPS has joined EEMBC’s Heterogeneous Compute (ADAS and Machine Learning) subcommittees, while ETA Compute has joined the Ultra-Low-Power Microcontroller subcommittee. One of our original members when EEMBC was founded in 1997, MIPS is a leading provider of industry-standard processor architectures and cores that power some of the world's most popular products for the home entertainment, communications, networking, and portable multimedia markets. Joining EEMBC as a member earlier this year, ETA Compute’s recently launched DIAL™ Technology is the world’s lowest power embedded platform that delivers significantly more machine intelligence to energy-constrained products.
Connected & Autonomous Vehicles 2018
EEMBC president and CTO Peter Torelli was on hand at Connected & Autonomous Vehicles 2018, where he presented “ADASMark: Evaluating the Performance of ADAS Heterogeneous Compute Architectures.” In his presentation, Peter discussed balancing cost and design complexity against the enormous need for compute power, how to provide benchmarks and analysis tools for these systems, and coming to grips with
image processing and CNN classification elements.
New Marketing and PR Initiative
In a move to grow its membership and licensing activity, EEMBC has engaged with a marketing agency that will be tasked with reaching out to the media, developing content for the EEMBC website and publications such as Benchpress, and raising the consortium’s digital profile. Heading up the effort is Bob Decker, president of the Dundee Hills Group of marketing agencies. Bob’s team previously worked on EEMBC marcom projects in the 2000 to 2008 timeframe, during which he was a regular attendee at EEMBC board meetings. Bob says “It’s great to be working with Peter to make EEMBC more visible, and I’m looking forward to connecting and reconnecting with all the EEBMC member companies to help them leverage their investment in EEMBC from a communications point of view.” Bob can be reached at bob.decker@redpinesgroup.com.
