EEMBC Hosted Workshop on Benchmarking Embedded Processors and Systems
Call for Papers Deadline: December 9th

EEMBC will host a one-day workshop, “Benchmark Methods to Analyze Embedded Processors and Systems (BMAEPS), in conjunction with the International Conference on Performance Engineering (ICPE) and SPEC. The workshop takes place on April 22, 2012 in Boston and will focus on the use of benchmarks, providing a forum for researchers and industry to discuss issues related to performance and energy analysis of systems and processors. Call for papers is open until December 9, 2011. Contact me directly if you have any cool ideas for a paper proposal.

Programmer Job Opportunity at EEMBC

We’re looking for an intern or contractor who wants a part-time, flexible-hours job to help us with benchmark code development (in C). This is a 3-6 month project working with many different embedded processors and development tools. This role requires a programmer familiar with C, make, perl and bash scripting. Knowing sed and experience with embedded development tools is an advantage. This programmer will work with embedded development tools and write C code and scripts which we will use in our industry-standard benchmarks. A great opportunity for an intern to learn about real life challenges of embedded programming (limited code size, portability, and more), and about standards and benchmarks. Programmer will work with our director of technology, Shay Gal-On.

New CoreMark™ Scores - Downloads Nearing 6000

With CoreMark™ downloads nearing 6000, the benchmark is clearly on a path to replace the infamous Dhrystone benchmark. We will soon be announcing a contest in which you could win prizes worth $millions, if not $hundreds, for describing how you have utilized this popular benchmark. (Secret information: we’re currently developing other CoreMark family benchmarks. This working group is open to ANY EEMBC member.)

As of today, users have posted over 270 CoreMark™ scores, benchmarking the performance of a wide variety of embedded processors from the industry’s most competitive players, including AMD, Analog Devices, ARM, Broadcom, Cavium, Freescale, Fujitsu, IBM, Infineon, Intel, Marvell, Microchip, MIPS, Nvidia, NXP, Renesas, STMicroelectronics, Texas Instruments, VIA Technologies, and Xilinx. Here are the processor scores that have been posted since our previous newsletter:
